Veteran's get off to a winning start!

Updated: Aug 14, 2024

The inaugural LMDAFC Veteran's campaign achieved their second win in a row yesterday as they ran out 5-1 winners against Leeds Phoenix Veterans at Castleford Academy.

Mark Johnson opened the scoring for the Medics on three minutes, after some very unselfish work from Vets debutant Alan Salter on the right wing. Johnson had his second, and then his third just minutes later, capitalising on defensive errors. Johnson then scored his fantastic fourth, a 25-yard finish in to the top corner, to all but seal the game early on 20 minutes.

The performances of Vets debutant midfielder James White and Will Kendall were some other highlights of a cracking first half.

Phoenix got a goal back from a wonder strike free kick right on half time, giving them some hope for the second half.

Medics dominated possession in the second half but failed to take a number of their chances, despite Ash Fraine looking lively on the wing. That was until another debutant, Alex Simms, raced onto a fine through ball from James White, beat the defender and slotted it underneath the outrushing goal keeper to ensure the Medics picked up all three points.

What should have been a table topping victory though was not, as the opposition from our week one victory dropped out of the league, meaning the first game was annulled.

The Medics therefore sit second in the table, with one win in one, and face a huge 6 pointer next week against top of the league East End Park WMC

Man of the Match: James White.
